Cover reveal: The Lion Awakens

I'm super excited to release the book cover for "The Lion Awakens," a young adult title from Prism Book Group.

Two worlds, two teens, two destinies...

For thirteen years, Annie Lange and David McClure believed their parents were killed in fiery car crashes. They learn the truth about the past when they find hidden messages in anonymous gifts left on their front porches. The notes lead them to a mentor who helps them discover and master their special powers, powers they will need if they have any chance of saving their world from the tyrant Goliath.

…When the lion awakens, their world is forever changed

Pew: Fewer bookworms

The Pew Research Center recently reported that almost a quarter of American adults haven't read a single book in the past year. *Gasp* Here's a look at the numbers, starting with 1978 when Gallup conducted the poll.

Percentage of Americans who haven't read at least one book in the past year:

Gallup 1978: 8 percent
Gallup 1990: 16 percent
Gallup 1999: 13 percent
Gallup 2001: 13 percent
Gallup 2002: 18 percent
Gallup 2005: 16 percent
Pew 2011: 18 percent
Pew 2012: 23 percent
Pew 2014: 23 percent

Does this surprise you?

"It's another make sure you have a box of tissues nearby story.

Andrews has created a true circle of life story, just the kind I personally love. Who we are, the choices we make, the support we receive, affect everyone. Part It's A Wonderful Life and part Lovely Bones, The Moment Keeper features characters who will impact your life for a long time.

Parallel life stories from two young women might shock some with the lifestyles of haves contrasting with the haven-nots. It may shame some of us who were guilty of being cruel at one time or another, and it will give more of us some real lessons on how to be a giver, no matter what stage of life. When at death a young woman is pulled into the afterlife with a special job, that of tracking and recording the moments of the life of another, the reader follows the journey of a privileged young girl, Olivia, growing in to adulthood. Along the way, Sarah, the Moment Keeper, shares her own struggle of life, tragedy, triumph, love, bullying, and mystery in a mirror image that almost feels voyeuristic.

Lovely tale. Kudos to Andrews for telling a very difficult story, and yes, there may be some predictability, but it was still a tearful joy to be part of the unfolding."

The Yearbook Series: Sue and Tom

Sue and Tom is a delightful second addition to the yearbook series. It's a story about love, trust, and second chances, with lots of laughter along the way. Reading this book was like a great night out with your girlfriends - you'll laugh, commiserate, and wait impatiently until you can meet again!

The Christmas Violin

Once again, Buffy Andrews tells a beautiful story that deeply moves you. After reading (and loving) The Moment Keeper, I couldn't wait to begin The Christmas Violin. Although the story was short, I've found myself thinking about the characters for days after. I can't wait to read the next book by Buffy Andrews, she is a masterfully storyteller who has an amazing ability to connect readers with her characters.

The Yearbook Series: Gina and Mike

When Gina and Mike were slow dancing at their 20th reunion the first song I thought of was "Dancin' Away With My Heart" by Lady Antebellum. People always say that you will never forget your first true love. I enjoyed that the book was about adults since a lot of the romance books I have read lately are about young college kids. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author.
