Keep this list of famous writers who were rejected but never gave up for those times when you need a little encouragement.
How do you handle rejection? Drink? Exercise? Write?

  1. Thanks for the list. I'm just trying to develop thicker skin and not define success in writing as getting an acceptance by an agent or publisher.

  2. thank you, Buffy. After receiving yet another rejection on a query I admit I did feel a little discouraged. However, it hasn't stopped me before and it isn't going to stop me now. Your list confirms my belief that sooner or later (hopefully sooner!) my work will find representation.

  3. You go Marcy. Hang in there. I've been feeling a bit discouraged lately, too. Wondering if I should hang it up. Self Doubt can be a mean monster to battle. But we need to continue to encourage one another. So hang in there girlfriend!

And Natalie, I'm trying to get a thicker skin, too. I agree that we need to not define success in writing as getting that acceptance by an agent or publisher. There is success in writing the book, just finishing the darn thing is quite an accomplishment. So why do we do this to ourselves? Uugh. You hang in there, too.

  4. Blogging is a huge release for me. People actually are reading my words. It helps make the rejections a little less painful.
