"Most people never run far enough on their first wind to find out they've got a second. Give your dreams all you've got and you'll be amazed at the energy that comes out of you."
--William James, 1842-1910, American Psychologist, Author
Love it! As a runner, this is the perfect analogy. Here's an interesting and somewhat related quote off of the website crossfit.com. It is from B. C. Forbes, the founder of Forbes magazine:
"How you start is important, very important, but in the end it is how you finish that counts. It is easier to be a self-starter than a self-finisher. The victor in the race is not the one who dashes off swiftest but the one who leads at the finish. In the race for success, speed is less important than stamina. The sticker outlasts the sprinter in life’s race. In America we breed many hares but not so many tortoises."
Hey Marissa, thanks so much for sharing that quote. Have never seen that before.
And Natalie, I think I did too much last night. My right knee is killin' me. Golf would definitely be easier on the knees. It's a pain getting older, no?
Erinn: You're so right about life happening. If we're lucky enough to get in the writing zone, life calls and we need to stop and do laundry or make dinner or go to work or run the kids or whatever. But every once in awhile it happens and it's glorious when it does.
Terry and LM, thanks for stopping by. And I'm feeling really guilty because I just ate two soft sugar cakes. One of my favs. I will have to run double tomorrow. Let's go girls. Pump those arms. Move those legs. Hey, they didn't call me Buffy the Cycle Slayer for nothin'. (Smiles)

That's a great analogy for writing. Now that I know you're a runner from your interview yesterday, I can see why you posted it.
