"Write what you care about and understand. Writers should never try to outguess the marketplace in search of a salable idea; the simple truth is that all good books will eventually find a publisher if the writer tries hard enough, and a central secret to writing a good book is to write one that people like you will enjoy." --Richard North PattersonDo you write the type of book you like to read? If so, what do you write/read and why? I hope all of you have a fantastic weekend.

That's such great advice. It would be hard to write something you didn't really like just because you thought it would do well in the marketplace.
ReplyDeleteI write middle grade fantasy. I love reading and writing fantasy stories. Maybe because they are such a good escape from the real world and I enjoy learning about all these new worlds authors can imagine. Have a great weekend.

ReplyDeleteThank you for that bit of inspiration. I most definitely needed it today. You are the best, Buffy.
ReplyDeleteGreat quote, Buffy! I read historical fiction and ya. (I'm not sure what the ya genre I read is...I really like books like Willow, Cut, 13 Reasons.) I write historical fiction and the ya I'm doing is about a mixed up girl.
ReplyDeletegreat quote, Buffy, especially these days when it seems like everyone is trying to get on the twilight/harry potter bandwagon - some successfully, others not so much. I've always enjoyed historical fiction and fantasy so right now I'm writing a Fantasy/Regency Romance set in an alternate England. I've written a fairy tail for adults and a paranormal romance.
ReplyDeleteps what are you working on?
Hey Marcy, you asked what I am working on. I just finished The Lion Awakens. It's about two 17-year-olds who find flash drives hidden in anonymous gifts that lead them to a parallel universe and an enemy hell-bent on taking over their world.
ReplyDeleteIt was soooo much fun to write.
